Room rent capping restricts the per-day room tariff covered (e.g. 1% of SI/day, or a fixed cap, or “single private room”). Its hidden sting: many hospital charges (surgeon fees, nursing, procedures) are linked to the room category. Choose a room above your cap and the insurer may proportionately deduct across the entire bill, not just the room difference.
In India
One of the most misunderstood clauses in Indian mediclaim. “No room rent capping” is a premium feature employers highlight because it prevents proportionate-deduction shocks.
In practice
Cap is ₹5,000/day; the patient takes a ₹10,000/day room (2× the cap). Because charges are room-linked, the insurer pays only ~50% of associated heads too. A ₹3 lakh bill can settle at ~₹1.5 lakh - the deduction hits the whole bill, not just the room.
